3 Things To Look For When Buying Coffee Online

In the land of coffee, where coffee brands and blends come a dime a dozen, it can be hard to wrap your brain around all the choices, let alone the best choices. And becomes even more intimidating when you’re trying to make your choices online.

The truth is that like anything else in life, once you start getting yourself acquainted with premium quality products, the fakes stand out like a sore thumb. To ensure you’re hunting down the right stuff, we’ve compiled a list of 3 things to look for when buying coffee online.

Where the Beans are from. First things first, when you’re trying to make an online coffee bean purchase, the first thing you want to do is navigate through the website. Quality websites should have a designated section telling you exactly where they’re coffee beans originate from. Ideally, the best places to have coffee beans imported from are:

  • Considered to be one of the world’s top coffee contributors, Colombia produces about 15% of the world’s coffee, and it’s known for its high-quality Arabica.
  • Dubbed the world’s largest coffee producer for decades. To give you some perspective on how much coffee comes from Brazil, anytime they have a drought, Coffee prices increase worldwide. They tend to vary in blends, and most of them are completely natural, and because of the countries long period of sunshine, it makes it the perfect place for natural processing.
  • Some of the world’s best coffee varieties are grown in Ethiopia.Known for its fruity and floral flavors, the processing method gives this coffee an impactful taste you have to try to appreciate.

Type of Roast. When buying coffee online, one thing you must take into consideration is your personal taste.

Dark roast. Do you enjoy a bold-flavored coffee with a hint of a bitter taste? If you’re like most coffee drinkers, chances are you do, which means you’re going to want to reach for the dark roast. A dark roast tends to be black, shiny- a clear sign of their bold taste.

Medium Roast. These coffee beans tend to be on the sweeter side. Medium roast tends to be the perfect compromise of aroma, acidity, and flavor. If you’re on the lookout for a flavorful coffee blend that will go with breakfast, but also provide a nice pick-me-up late in the evening, medium roast is the way to go.

Light Roast. Light roast beans have a pale look compared to their counterparts. They shouldn’t have any traces of being roasted. Light roast beans tend to have a more acidic flavor. These coffee beans are exactly what the name implies, a light, fruity, aromatic roast. Side note: we love using these for pour-over coffee.

Quality of Roaster Company. Not to be overlooked, you want to do some research on the roaster company. Some things you want to consider are: what is their mission? What is their process? What do they stand for? Ideally, you want to find a company like Roast Up coffee that handcrafts in small batches and uses sensibly sourced beans from top coffee-producing regions.

If you pay attention to these qualities when making your online coffee bean purchase, you can rest assured you will be investing in high-quality coffee beans every single time.
